Artist / teachers community of practice

As visual artists/teachers working in community settings we are often isolated or siloed without much opportunity to share our skills and experiences with our colleagues. We might be dealing with conflicting expectations of students, families, and funders as well as our own career goals. In this environment it can be difficult to focus on developing our artistic and teaching practice.

To address this, a community of practice has been formed to bring visual artist/teachers together for support and professional development. Sessions run monthly and include art-making, skill and resource sharing and critical discussions.

Participation is free, and members who facilitate sessions are paid for their time. This has been made possible by a regional development grant thanks to Auckland Council, and by the Centre of Arts for Social Transformation (CAST) at Auckland University, who cover the room hire and basic material expenses for sessions on Epsom Campus.

Our members only resource section hosts a growing selection of resources to support artist/teachers practice. This includes indexes of journal articles, book lists, suppliers, and artist models, as well as lesson plans, activity ideas, work opportunities and business tools.

Please get in touch to register your interest in hearing more about upcoming events and to access members' resources.
